How badly do you want it?

This morning, I got up to the sound of raining falling on my roof. This was not the music I wanted to hear so early in the morning. A part of me immediately freaked out. This is the pleasure-seeking part. That part of me that does not want any discomfort. It is the part that is afraid to get wet in the morning and would rather sleep in.

I had an internal dialogue about what course of action to take. It was dark, wet and cold outside and the rain was still falling.

As all these thoughts were running through my mind, we gathered for our morning devotion and read this proverb:

He who loves pleasure will be a poor man;
 He who loves wine and oil will not be rich. Proverb 21:17

The pleasure-seeking part of me does not want to be pushed and it is afraid to go through pain. Getting out of bed in the morning and going out to run under the rain is just too much and I was considering calling it off for today. I reasoned missing just one day will not kill me.

Many people who never get behind their goals is because they have not taken that first step. They are waiting for the right conditions or circumstances to act. While they may be having “a legitimate excuse” the truth is that they do not want it bad enough.

If they understand that their lives depend on it, they will do something about it. If they convince themselves that they cannot do without it, they will do something.

Those who start and fail, at times is triggered by that one-time lapse and everything goes downhill from there.

If you love pleasure and good wine, you are going to be poor. Poverty is not just in monetary terms. The worst kind of poverty is poor health. Because without good health you cannot accomplish all other things.

How badly do you want what you desire? Nobody can answer this question for you. Show me actions and I will know how badly you want it.
