How did we get to the point where everything that is said is spun to score political points? Must everything be blown out of proportion? President Trump is purported to have called some countries shithole countries, and right now the world has come crumbling down. Some have said only citizens from these countries have the right to call their countries shitholes, but President Trump has no right whatsoever to use that word. I am wiring because some people reached out to me and asked for my reaction. Some of these individuals expressed angry and total disdain towards the president. Those accusing others of insensitivity have allowed their anger to cloud their judgment.
Did the president say people from Haiti and African countries are shithole people? NO! Then why are they accusing Him of being racist?
From what I read, some of the people in the meeting with the president say that he said, why are people from these “shithole” countries clamoring to move to the United States of America, instead of people from Norway and other developed countries? Can we give the president the benefit of the doubt for asking a question that needs some serious thought and answers?
If we allow the language to distract us, we are missing an opportunity to probe why some of these countries are not doing well, and their citizens are fleeing in droves.
Before I write another word, I will like to define what shithole is, according to The Online Slang Dictionary, “Shit hole is an extremely dirty, shabby, or otherwise unpleasant place” http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/shit-hole
If a place is unpleasant people will try to move away from it and will do all to get away no matter what.
According to this NBC news article, about 3000 Africans died in 2017 in the Mediterranean Sea trying to get into Europe. Can it be the 3000 Africans trying to cross into Europe were running away from something unpleasant? Can we ask the parents of these children what they think about their countries and continent? Instead of sitting in our airconditioned offices and screaming President Trump is a racist? What is wrong in stating the obvious?
The lip service that is being paid to a serious issue that is confronting the world by those trying score political points is disgraceful, to say the least.
Why all the arrogance in insinuating that people must come to America to be better off. This solution is not sustainable and makes no sense. Why are we not thinking about empowering people so that they do not have to abandon all to move across the globe to afford a clean glass of water, a secure environment to raise their children, and better educational opportunities?
When a Country like Cameroon and other central African countries still have their central bank in France after more than 50 years of independence, it begs one’s imagination why these countries are still struggling to meet the basic needs of their citizens.
President Trump opened the sewer, and it is stinking badly in there. For shithole countries to exist the shit must be becoming from somewhere and being dumped there. The world is connected whether some of it or not and what happens in one part of the world affects the other parts.Those that have significant “shitty business deals in some of this country to exploit their natural resources without regard for the environment know that they are part of the problem. The nationals from these countries who turn a blind eye and agree to terms of trade that will enrich them and not their fellow citizens carry part of the blame for this shithole countries.
The leaders that have refused to get out of power and have surrendered themselves to people who always answer yes sir! Moreover, tell these leaders only what they want to hear is part of the problem. How can a president be in power for more than three decades and keep winning all elections that are organized? These same presidents meet other world leaders and are given the red-carpet treatment. It seems nobody cares about the ruin the country is subjected to.
If you drink coffee or drink hot chocolate, you may be aware that the coffee and cocoa beans are imported without processing. Part of the reason is that it is extremely cheap to buy unprocessed goods, this leaves the farmers and the countries that produce the cocoa and coffee poor and eventually they become shithole countries. The way world trade is set up right now encourages some of this “shittiness” to continue. Most countries cannot use their currencies to trade internationally, they need the almighty dollar and to get the dollar they have to sell their unprocessed natural resources cheap.
When you add the corruption, greed, embezzlement, and mismanagement to the equation, there is little left to construct much need infrastructure and provide much need services like health and education, etc.

There is no point in getting into the uncomfortable details of these “shitty” conditions that other people are subjected to. Let world vision and other nonprofit organizations do that for you. We should be focusing on the solution. The outraged has been and is being misdirected. Let the anger and frustration be put towards being one another’s keeper. Where you shop how you should, contribute directly and indirectly to the solution. Do your homework and see how you can become part of the solution.
I was born in Africa and migrated to the United States of America and think that those who are using this situation to polarize the United States of America are the problem. Is the truth so painful these days? Why not ask some of us what prompted us to leave all and move to the US?
