The Banishment of Racism Now and Forever: Instructions for eternal life

Life does not end when you die. There is an afterlife, and I am going to use this opportunity to tell you about it. Talking about the afterlife is not an indirect way for you to disengage with the present life, but a motivation for you to make the most of your time on earth. While there are many arguments about which road leads to God and which of God is true, I am not going to dwell on these issues. The reason being that there is not enough room for us to do a comparative st

The end of Racism: #6 You have the final say

The ball is in your court! You have the power to kick it in any direction you choose. This book is about you as an individual, not about the government, institution, or organization. I mentioned that the governments, laws, and organizations are the other players in this issue, but the main thrust of this book has been YOU. There is no point in chasing the wind because you will never be able to catch it. I say this to underscore the important fact that you should stop focusing

The End of Racism: #5 Racism and Christianity do not mix

Racism and Christianity should not appear in the same sentence. There has been a history of segregation in the Christian church and this must not be condoned. We are supposed to be the children of the light to show the world how to treat all God’s children. Unfortunately, we are living in a fallen world. Some of us who are supposed to be mature are still babies in the faith and are drinking milk instead of eating solid food. Are all people created in the image and likeness of

The End of Racism: #3 You are not inferior

Since we have already established that you are a child of God, it automatically means that you are not inferior. Do not let what others think about you become your reality. Some may have even said that you are inferior to them and cannot amount to anything. You have to reject such pronouncements and believe who God says you are. To act contrary to this will be detrimental to your well-being, and it will keep you trapped in the grip of racism. Some may want you to believe that

The End of Racism: #2 You are a child of God

In addition to being created in the image and likeness of God, you become a child of God when you recognize that the fellowship between you and God needs to be reestablished. You become born of God when you believe in the name of Jesus Christ. For it is written: “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John

The End of Racism: #1 Know who you are

When you know who you truly are, nobody is going to mess with your mind. I have shown that racism is a social construct based on a faulty ideology about people’s identity. According to the racist, there are some people whose skin color makes them inferior to them and deserve to be treated as such. However, it is not enough for somebody to believe that your skin color or any other thing makes you inferior to them. To be inferior, you need to believe that you are inferior. As s

The End of Racism: Anything that has a beginning has an end

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.” Martin Luther King, Jr. The title of this chapter is a paradox because, throughout the book, I pointed out that racism is a social construct, a façade, a bogeyman that has morphed into a monster that is extremely d

The Way Forward: I get It

“If a man like Malcolm X could change and repudiate racism, if I myself and other former Muslims can change, if young whites can change, then there is hope for America.” Eldridge Cleaver Not too long ago, I wrote something on Facebook about racism, and one of my contacts who happens to be African-American told me outright that I was not born here and I do not understand anything about racism. This person is not the only one who has told me that. I have not yet earned the righ

All things work together for our good

Bad things happen to good people and at times we wonder why because it does not make sense. However, Joseph had an entirely different perspective as the following scriptures reveal: And Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said: “I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. Change yourself, not others

Apart from the incident of Joseph telling his brothers about their misdeeds, there is nowhere that he tried to change other people. The dreams he had were about him and his future, although his brothers were mentioned in them, he did not make the dreams about them. In Egypt, when his master’s wife tried to seduce him, he did not tell her that she should change. He told her that he could not commit such a sin against God. In other words, Joseph was focused on his role and resp

You can rise above institutionalized discrimination

One of the biggest complaints of people living in societies where discrimination is institutionalized and has become the law of the land is how impossible it is to rise above. They rightfully talk about the lack of access to jobs, opportunities, healthcare, and upward social mobility. People of “color” are unlikely to be appointed to occupy a certain position. In some countries, if you are from a minority ethnic group, you can never occupy certain positions. It is not easy to

The shortcut to prominence is by solving problems

Joseph did not become number two in Egypt because somebody pitied him or advocated for him to be given that job. Remember that the Egyptians detested the Hebrews and they would not even eat with them. This is discrimination at its worst. Nobody set up a committee to fight against this discrimination, but when Joseph cared enough for others to meet their needs, he was positioned to become the number two most powerful person in Egypt. It has been said that the cream will always

Your gift will bring you before kings

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men. Proverbs 22:29 Joseph had a gift to interpret dreams and he used it while in prison. In addition to being a dream interpreter, Joseph was a skilled administrator and manager. We are told that his master's business flourished under him. Even when Joseph was thrown in prison he excelled and was placed in charge of other prisoners. Please don't get me wrong, there is never

Making the most with what you have

Your gift will make a way for you no matter what your circumstances are or what other people think about you or do to you. Therefore, it is more important to find out what your gift is and start using it, instead of complaining about your circumstances. Joseph had the gift of interpreting dreams, and he used it while in prison. Remember that he was falsely accused, wrongfully convicted, and imprisoned. He could have allowed anger and bitterness to prevent him from making use

    Living above your circumstances

Joseph was enslaved, but his spirit was free because he refused to obey the dictates of the wife of his owner. Although one would have expected Joseph to comply because he was owned and had no right to say no, he understood who the true master was. The person calling the shots was God, that is why it is recorded that God was within both in Potiphar's house and in prison. Even in prison, Joseph did not allow himself to be depressed; he still excelled because God was with him.

    Understanding the bigger picture

The first lesson we can learn from the life of Josep is the fear of God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and to fear good is to hate evil. Without a healthy fear of God, it is impossible to defeat evil. Joseph feared God and this empowered him to resist the temptation to commit adultery. The second lesson is forgiveness. Joseph's brothers committed a despicable act against him, yet he forgave them. Joseph forgave not because he was not hurting, it was because

    Forgiveness

I already mentioned that all have sinned and need forgiveness. Joseph understood this, and it helped him to see beyond his brother’s egregious offense. What this brother did was despicable, but it was not beyond forgiveness. Consider what Jesus Christ taught us about forgiving one another. His disciples had come to him, asking him to teach them how to pray. Jesus taught them what we now call the Lord’s Prayer, and part of it is the request for God to forgive us. Then Jesus ad

Joseph Feared God: Twenty reasons he could have given if he committed adultery

We all know this part of Joseph’s story, recorded in the following passage: It came about after these events that his master's wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." But he refused and said to his master's wife, "Behold, with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in the house, and he has put all that he owns in my charge. "There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you because you are h

Telling It Like It Is; Racism is Universal

Racism comes in many different forms. Sometimes it's subtle, and sometimes it's overt. Sometimes it's violent, and sometimes it's harmless, but it's definitely here. It's something that I think we're all guilty of, and we just have to make sure that we deal with our own personal racism in the right way. Jordan Peele The assumption in society today, especially in societies where the black race and white races interact, is that racism is prevalent. When people operate under thi
